Four killed in auto-truck mishap

Four persons were killed while one sustained injuries when their autorickshaw collided head-on with a speeding truck on Amaravati-Akola road near here, police said today.

The incident took place in the wee hours today when the occupants of the autorickshaw were returning home after celebrating the engagement of a friend and their vehicle was hit by the truck approaching from opposite direction at high speed near Badnera, an officer at Badnera police station said.

The deceased were identified as Vijay Narayan Sahu (32), Mohanchandra Verma (30), Amarsingh Thakur (30), and Pramod Mishra. All of them worked as drivers and belonged to Badnera.
 

Gaurav Anil Yadav (23), who was driving the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and is in a critical condition, they said.

Yadav was first taken to district general hospital by the police and was later shifted to a city hospital here.

The driver of the truck fled from the spot and further investigations are on, they added.
