Four killed in landslide in Visakhapatnam

Four persons, including a child, were killed and as many injured in a landslide at Sanjeevayyanagar in Thatichetlapalem area here today, police said.

The incident took place in the wee hours when a giant boulder from a hillock fell on a house, located near hill slope in Thatichetlapalem, where the deceased lived, said City Police Commissioner Amit Garg.

Three persons were buried alive while another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The deceased were identified as Adinarayana (7), Suryanarayana (65), Adilakshmi (55) and Sriram (22).

Sriram succumbed to injuries during treatment at the government-run King George Hospital, where the four injured are also taking treatment, the officer said.
 

AP Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Minister for Information, Palle Raghunatha Reddy expressed grief over the incident.

Earlier, Rao visited the spot and assured families living in the vicinity of Thatichetlapalem, to provide them alternative housing facility.

The minister informed that a committee will be formed to identify families residing near such perilous hill slopes and soon steps will be taken to shift them to safer places.

MLA P Vishukumar Raju and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation chief Praveen Kumar personally monitored the rescue and relief operations, the officer said.
