Four killed in lightning in Odisha

At least four persons died and nineteen others injured, eight of them seriously, after lightning struck them in different places in Odisha's Jajpur district today, police said.

The injured persons were admitted to different hospitals in the district, while five of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated, Jajpur District Chief Medical Officer Debabrata Jena said.

Two labourers, engaged in repair of the river embankment of the Baitarani, died on the spot and 11 others injured when lightning struck at Patapur.

One person died on the spot while he was returning home from Arabal village on a bi-cycle as lightning struck.
 

Another person died and eight others were injured while they were working in different paddy fields at Dharmasala block, police said.
