Four persons of a family were killed on the spot, while three others sustained severe injuries today when the van they were travelling in collided head-on with a tanker in Nawada district of Bihar.

Police officers said the accident happened on National Highway-31 near Chitrakoli village under Rajauli police station in the district and the victims were local residents of the Dibour Ghati village.

"The collision was so severe that the van was badly crushed. The four seem to have died instantaneously, while the three in critical condition have been admitted to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the area," said Rajauli Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarfur Rehman.

The police said the tanker was coming at high speed from Jharkhand and was also damaged in the collision. Its driver has been arrested and the bodies have been sent for post mortem.
