Four labourers died today after a portion of ground caved in at a construction site here, burying them under a mound of earth, police said.

The incident occurred in evening when the labourers were working inside the foundation pit of an under-construction commercial complex "Anand Centre Square" on Mayfair Road.

"While these labourers were busy doing their work inside the dug-up pit for erecting foundation columns, a large chunk of clay suddenly fell on them. As a result, all of them died after getting buried," said Hetal Patel, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Anand.

The deceased have been identified as Kamlesh Amaliyara, Arjun Parmar, Jaanu Amaliyara and Urvi Parmar (all in age group of 25-30).

"Fire brigade rushed to the spot and pulled out the labourers after a one-hour long operation. The labourers were declared dead by a paramedical team of 108 ambulance service. We have lodged a case of accidental death and started further investigation," added Patel.
