Four Maoists arrested from Odisha forest

Four Andhra Pradesh-based Maoists, allegedly involved in a number of crimes including abduction of IAS officer R Vineel Krishna four years ago, were arrested by the police from a forest in Odisha's Malkangiri district.

They were captured during a joint combing operation by the BSF and the police in Chintamdoli forest in the Chitrakonda area yesterday, Inspector In-Charge of Chitrakonda police station Pitabas Dharua said.

The four, active in the Korkunda Dalam area, were allegedly involved in a large number of offences including the abduction of the then Malkangiri district Collector R Vineel Krishna in February, 2011, the IIC said.
 

Identified as Kera Shriramulu, K Nageswar Rao, Banda Prasad and Jayasingh Bunjibabu, the ultras were also involved in the landmine blast at Chintamdoli ghat of Chitrakonda reservoir in which three BSF jawans and a civilian were killed on August 26, this year, he said.

They were active in naxal activities in Malkangiri and nearby areas of Odisha as well as Andhra Pradesh. The four were also involved in explosions, murder and exchange of fire with the police, they said.
