Four members of a family, including a newly married couple, were drowned in a river near a temple at Rayagada in Odisha, police said.
The mishap took place when the victims, who hailed from Vijaynagaram area of Andhra Pradesh, were taking bath in Jhanjabati river near Majhighariani temple yesterday, said Inspector In-Charge of Rayagada police station, R Patra.
Police said around seven people from Andhra Pradesh had come to Rayagada to perform puja at Goddess Majhighariani temple and the four, including a couple who had got married barely a week ago, had gone for a bath in the river when they were swept deep into the water.
After being informed, the fire brigade personnel launched a search operation in the river and found the four persons who were taken to the hospital where doctors declared them dead.
