Four men held for smuggling gold worth Rs 42 lakh at airport

Four persons have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 42 lakh at the international airport here.

A man was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival here from Dubai yesterday. On personal and baggage search, three pieces of gold bars, total weighing 1.6 kgs valued at Rs 41.97 lakh was recovered from the passenger, a press release issued today by the customs said.

"Two more passengers who were part of this smuggling racket arrived with the said passenger," it said.

During investigation, an employee of a leading tour and travel operator was found involved in this smuggling activity, it further said.
 

The gold was seized and the four persons were arrested, the release said.
