Four districts in Tamil Nadu, which were so far not covered, would be brought in medical coverage under the Employees State Insurance Corporation soon, Union Minister of state for Labour and Employment, Kodikunnin Suresh said today.
The 28 of the 32 districts in the state were already under ESI coverage and ESIC has given approval to Tamil Nadu to cover workers in Ramanathapuram and Thiruvarur districts, Suresh told reporters here.
With the regard to Perambalur and Ariyalur, two other left out districts, the state government was under the process of sending the proposals for approval, after which all the district in the state would come ESIC network, Suresh, who was here to review progress of various schemes being implemented by his ministry, said.

Coimbatore medical college would be on par with AIIMS, Delhi, with regard to infrastructure and treatment facility, he claimed.
Stating that works for four ESI Hospitals, each costing Rs 100 crore and having 100 beds, would be inaugurated in Tamil Nadu by the turn of the year, the minister said the workers of Sriperumbadur, Kanyakumari, Toothukudi and Tirpur would be benefited by this.
The works for Tirunelveli Hospital would be completed in another six months, he said.
Suresh, who also reviewed the mine safety and security, said his ministry was very strict and keeping vigil with regard to mine safety.
