Four persons killed, five injured in truck-SUV collision

Four persons were killed and five others seriously injured when an SUV collided head-on with a truck in East Champaran district of Bihar today, police said.

"Nine persons were travelling in the SUV from Machharhatta area of Patna to attend a marriage function at Kuria village in Bagaha in West Champaran district. Suddenly a truck came in front of the vehicle and rammed into it," Chakia Deputy Superintendent of Police Mundrika Prasad said.

The accident took place on National Highway 74 near Dilia Bazar.

The DSP said the collision was so severe that three persons died on the spot. One more died while being taken to hospital .
 

"The injured have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. The relatives of the dead and injured have been informed," he added.

The truck driver escaped after the accident, leaving his vehicle behind. It has been seized by the police.

The victims have been identified as driver of the SUV Sonu Sharma (30), Vijay Mahto (50), Manish Kumar (32) and Shyam Prasad (30), he said.
