Four persons have been sentenced for life by a court here for killing a youth in 2009.

Additional Sessions Judge Gurjant Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 each on the convicts.

However, the court yesterday acquitted three other persons in the case for want of evidence.

Those convicted by the court for life term are Gurpreet Singh, Parminder Singh, Surinder Singh and Sandeep Singh.

The other three, who had been acquitted for want of evidence, are Karmjit Singh, Mandeep Singh and Sukhvinder Singh, also residents of Chuharchak village.

According to the prosecution, police had registered a case of murder on November five, 2009 against seven persons for killing Jiwan Singh, a resident of Chuharchak village in this district.

The prosecution had contended that all the accused conspired to eliminate Jiwan Singh for allegedly playing vulgar songs while driving his tractor in the village.

The prosecution had submitted Jiwan was shot dead by Gurpreet Singh on November five, 2009 in the village following which a murder case was registered against seven persons.
