Four police personnel, two others injured in mob fury

Four police officer and two others were injured in brick-batting after the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse an unruly mob in Ranikudar under Kadma police station here.

The police arrived at the spot after local residents assembled to protest against vandalism in a religious structure by unknown miscreants.

The mob turned violent and started throwing bricks at the police when they tried to pursue the protesters to withdraw their agitation and assured to look into the matter, said Superintendent of Police (City) Karthik S.

Four policemen including Major Sergeant Rajiv Kumar sustained injuries in the incident, Karthik said adding Kumar was admitted to a hospital, while two others who were mediapersons, also sustained injuries and were rushed to the M G M Hospital.
 

The district administration led by Sub-Divisional Officer (Dhalbhum), Prem Ranjan, Senior Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Police as well as BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato and senior BJP leader Saryu Rai reached the spot and made efforts to bring peace in the area, but the residents refused to budge until the culprits were arrested and action initiated against the erring policemen.
