Four policemen of Sonari police station including Sub-Inspector Brahmdeo Pathak, Assistant Sub-Inspector R C Sharma, constables Sanjay Ram and Jaiprakash Yadav were suspended in this connection, they said.

Confirming the report, Senior Superintendent of Police here, Akhilesh Kumar Jha said the suspension was ordered after the policemen had taken Sanjib Dutta, a photo-journalist here, and a witness of the case of Mohan Kumar into the custody.

In a complaint lodged with the police here, Dutta alleged that a police team including Ram had arrived at his place late last night with a old bailable witness warrant in regard with a case, which had already been disposed off on March 23 last following a compromise between the complainant Dutta and the accused person in presence of Chief Judicial Magistrate.

However, the police team again arrived this morning and allegedly demanded money from him otherwise threatening him to send to jail.

Later, Dutta and Kumar were taken into custody when they have gone to submit court order in regard with the closed case.

The matter was immediately brought to the notice of the Senior Superintendent of Police, who intervened and suspended the four.

Earlier, Dutta had lodged a FIR against one Sonaram Majhi and others allegedly for opening fire at him in Sonari on July 2009.
