Four seeds bite the dust

On a day of upsets, four seeded players were shown the exit door by unranked opponents in first round singles matches at the MSLTA-IOC Khar Gymkhana All India Ranking Men's tennis tournament today.

Maharashtra's third seed Dhruv Sunish, fifth seed Armaan Bhatia and seventh seed Kunal Vazirani, along with no. 4 seed Hardeep Singh Sandhu of Punjab fell by the wayside.

Qualifier Chandril Sood of Uttar Pradesh started the ball rolling after capitalising on a crucial break in the 11th game of the opening set to shock Sandhu 7-5 6-2 in the first round.

Sood later team up with his brother Lakshit to advance to the doubles second round.
 

In other opening round singles ties, unseeded Rohan Bhatia upset state rival Vazirani 6-4 6-4, while unseeded Abhinansu Borthakur of West Bengal halted Sunish 0-6 7-6, 6-0.

Unseeded Shaikh Abdullah of Telangana completed a rewarding day for the underdogs when he overcame Bhatia of the host Gymkhana 6-3 6-2.

Doubles (1st round): Lakshit/Chandril Sood bt Jatin Dahiya/Vilasier Khate 6-3 6-2; Anvit Bendre/Bhavesh Gour bt Arnav Goel/Raghav Jaisinghani 3-6 6-2 10-6; Yash Yadav/Rithvik Anand bt Jagpreet Singh/Dheeranush Bhati 3-6 6-4 10-2; S D Prajwal Dev/Sai Saran Reddy bt Ominder Baisoya/Keneisezotuo Whourie 7-6(7-3) 6-3.
