Four sentenced to 5 years RI in 2001 robbery case

A sessions court today sentenced four persons to five years rigorous imprisonment in a 2001 robbery case while acquitting six others.

Government Railway Police had arrested ten persons in connection with the case in which a merchant was robbed of Rs 4.6 lakh and 362 grams of gold after he was stabbed with a knife at Sathiragudi between Rameswaram and Madurai while he was travelling in a train.

They managed to recover Rs 70,000 and 104 gm of gold from them.

When they were produced in the court today, sessions court magistrate N.Chandran sentenced four of them to five years RI and also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each.
 

The six others were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The four convicts have been lodged in the Madurai Central prison.
