Four sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering farmer

Salem Additional District Judge, Naseema Begam convicted today four persons, including a woman, to life imprisonment for murdering a 65-year old farmer of Pakkanadu village in the district over a dispute in laying pipeline.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on all the four.

The deceased, Semban(65), who had a dispute with his neighbour Palaniappan (45) over the issue of laying pipeline in his field for irrigation, made a complaint to the police on June 30, 2010.

On his way back, the farmer was waylaid and attacked by Palaniappan, his wife Mallika (39), Maathiyan (40) and his son Selvakumar (26) with sickles and knives. Semban died instantly.
 

Poolampatty police who arrested the accused, had registered cases under sections 302 (murder, 327 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort property), and 341 (wrongful restraint) of IPC.
