Four teenaged boys drowned in the sea off the coastal town of Porbandar in western Gujarat, police said today.

The incident took place last night near Asmavati Ghat in the town, around 340 kms from here.

Two bodies were fished out late in the night, while the remaining were found floating near the ghat today afternoon, said T N Vaghela, Sub-Inspector in Harbour Marine Police Station in Porbandar.

The deceased were identified as Afzal Kabavalia, Ahmed Sumra (both 15), Sarfaraz Rathod and Samir Rathod (both 16), all residents of Porbandar.

Vaghela said all of them were close friends and had gone to Asmavati Ghat to take a dip in the sea.

"They went into the sea at around 8:45 PM. Since it was dark, people on the shore did not realise immediately that they were drowning. Later, local fishermen and divers of Fire Department fished out the bodies of Afzal and Sarfaraz," he said.

Though the search and rescue operation continued throughout the night, the other two could not be located, the police officer said.

"We found the bodies of Samir and Ahmed floating near the ghat this afternoon. We have sent all the bodies for post- mortem and started a probe," he said.
