Four tiger cubs were today spotted in the Sanjay Gandhi Tiger Reserve in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh by forest officials, an official statement said.
The newborns are around 25-days-old, it said.
A tiger (P-212), which strayed from the Panna Tiger Reserve, was rehabilitated in this reserve and it is believed that these cubs were born after it mated with a tigress already in the reserve, the release said.
Nearly five to seven adult tigers are expected to be present in the Sanjay Gandhi Tiger Reserve, which was earlier known as a low tiger density area.
In April 2014, tiger P-212's entry into the reserve was violently opposed by existing tigers following which, it had suffered injuries.
However, after it met a local tigress, the tiger made the reserve its abode, it said.
The birth of four cubs is considered as an important step towards developing Sanjay Gandhi Tiger Reserve, the sixth tiger reserve in the state, as a "source population reserve", the release said.
