At least four persons have died and over 20 others taken ill after consuming meat of a dead goat at a tribal village in Odisha's Koraput district, a district official said today.
Additional District Medical Officer (Koraput) Anand Kumar Padhi said the incident took place at Uperlachha village where some villagers had eaten the meat of a dead goat on August 10.
"It is learnt that after consuming meat of the dead animal, the villagers suffered from diarrhoea and the deaths occurred between August 12 and 16," Padhi said.

The incident came to light on Sunday, Padhi said adding a team of medical officials visited the village and collected water sample from the village and stool sample of the affected persons for laboratory tests.
"Presently, the situation is under control and the affected persons are being treated at the village. The villagers have also been made aware not to consume meat of a dead animal. The situation is being closely monitored," he said.
