Four policemen, including a sub-inspector, were today arrested after an undertrial fled from their custody while he was being taken back to jail.

The incident occurred last evening when the prisoner, identified as Sahid alias Chaman, was being brought back to Dasna Jail from Aligarh district where he was taken in connection with a double murder case lodged against him.

Sahid escaped from the police vehicle when it reached near Masuri bus stand around 7 PM yesterday. He pushed the cops escorting him and attacked them, before jumping off the vehicle to flee.

Police said sub-inspector Shyam Sunder Mishra, and three constables were arrested after Sahid's escape came to light.

"Prima facie, there has been negligence on the part of police personnel escorting Sahid. Police have arrested a sub-inspector and three constables deployed in Aligarh district. Police are now interrogating arrested policemen and further investigation is on," said Jagdish Sharma, Superintendent of Police (rural).

Sahid had been lodged in Dasna Jail for several months.
