A minor girl was allegedly raped by four youths in Muzaffarpur district last week, and the act was later videographed and uploaded on social media, a senior police official said.
An FIR has been registered against seven persons, including four youths involved in the alleged gangrape, and three others who tried to hush up the incident, Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police, Vivek Kumar told PTI today.
The FIR was registered with Katra police station last night, Kumar said.
A few persons have been detained for information about the absconding youths.
The incident took place on last Saturday at Nawada village under Katra police station of Muzaffarpur, when the 14-year-old girl was returning home from a Dusshera fair, the police official said.
She was abducted by the four youths who allegedly raped her at a secluded place, he said, adding, they videographed the incident and uploaded it on social media.
When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's reaction was sought by media persons at an event in Patna today, he did not offer any comment.
However, Minister for Women Empowerment and Social Welfare Manju Varma told reporters that she has informed the CM about the incident and the government is taking action.
Condemning the incident, Building Construction Minister Maheshwar Hazari said, the government would take stringent action against those involved.
National Women's Commission member Sushma Sahu said the Commission would intervene strongly in support of the girl.
The incident, meanwhile, provided an opportunity to rival RJD to attack the JD(U).
"Reports of such incidents are pouring in from different parts of Bihar but the government is not paying any heed to such incidents," former Chief Minister Rabri Devi said.
Refuting allegations of police inaction, the SSP said, "After the incident, the victim's family took up the matter with the village panchayat and after persuasion from police, they lodged a complaint only last night."
A medical examination of the victim was conducted within 24 hours of registration of the case, he added.
