Fox Searchlight is developing a biopic on the life of legendary choreographer Alvin Ailey.
Ailey was best known for founding the interracial Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York in 1958 and helped popularise modern dance. His "Revelations" became one of the most-performed modern dance pieces in history.
The studio is working with dance theatre's artistic directors Robert Battle and Emerita Judith Jamison and in cooperation with the Ailey Organisation for the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are thrilled to be working with these incredible partners to bring to the screen the amazing journey and revolutionary choreography of Alvin Ailey, whose life and legacy profoundly impacted people of all backgrounds around the world," Battle said.
Singer Alicia Keys and Susan Lewis will produce the project via their AK Worldwide production company along with Kinberg, Rachel Cohen, and Jana Edelbaum.
