50,000 girl students in Tripura living below the poverty line would get a bicycle each free as an incentive to reduce the school drop out rate, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said today.

"The state government has decided to give some incentives to girl students to reduce drop out rates. 50,000 girl students living below poverty line will get bicycles free of cost in addition to existing benefits like free text books," Sarkar told reporters.

Girl students in Class XI and XII with a family income less than 1.25 lakhs per annum would get the benefit.

The total financial implication for the scheme would be Rs 15 crore per annum on the state exchequer.
