Women can enjoy free travel in non-AC buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Tuesday on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

This was announced today by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who greeted people on the occasion.

DTC has been instructed to ensure free ride for women passengers on Tuesday.

"The decision has been taken to ensure that women reach easily to the places of their brothers," she said.

Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami said women will be able to travel free of cost from 8 AM to 5 PM. However, the free travel will not be allowed in AC buses.

Goswami said women passengers will also be allowed free travel in cluster bus service being run by DTC in collaboration with private entities.

"Free travel for women will be allowed in DTC buses operating to neighbouring towns," Goswami added.
