Free gas cylinders with ovens were today distributed among 1.10 lakh BPL families in Jharkhand on the occasion of the Bhai Dooj ceremony.

State Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that this was a gift to sisters from the government and that in the next three years the government has set a target of distributing free gas cylinders with stoves and Rs 200 as subsidy per month among 1.66 lakh BPL households.

"This will cost the government Rs 450 crore," Das said.

Das announced this while inaugurating the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yozana at the Vivekanand Auditorium of the Vinoba Bhava University here.

Das claimed that Jharkhand was the only state in the country where not a rupee had been taken from beneficiaries in the distribution of free gas cylinders.

Das noted that in the 70 years of India's independence many declared schemes for the uplift of BPL families had not been implemented fully. However, the schemes started for the BPL families by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last two and a half years had proved that the Prime Minister meant business.

He said that Modi's Ujwala Vikash Yojana was one of the examples.

He said that the government had already declared that 2017 would be observed as "Garib Kalyan Varsh" and was proceeding towards achieving the goal.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha said that by launching the scheme the Prime Minister has fulfilled his promises to the people.
