A free-of-cost English medium play school exclusively poor tribal children was inaugurated on the outskirts of Jamshedpur on Thursday.

Set up by a charitable body, the air-conditioned school building was built on 3000 sq ft of land at Baliguma on the Dalma foothills.

Besides basic education to children, the school authorities would provide books, uniform and food, Anima Das Memorial Charitable Trust chairman P N Das said.

Free transport would also be available to the students of the play school that would start academic activities after Diwali, Das said.

It would have a 100-seat capacity, he said adding that over 70 girls and boys in the age group of 3 to 5 years have already been enrolled.

"We decided to set up the school after consulting 20 village chiefs and after we were convinced that they would enroll their children in it," Das said.

A tribal teacher would be appointed for the school which was inaugurated by former Tata Steel vice-president Om Narayan.
