Free Spirit Film Festival kicks off tomorrow

The Free Spirit Film Festival is celebrating its 13th edition with 25 films from around the world.

The festival, which begins tomorrow, is an annual event and is organised in McLeod Ganj, Upper Dharamshala.

The first edition of the festival was launched by Lobsang Wangyal Productions in 2004 as the "Tibetan Film Festival" and was renamed as "Free Spirit Film Festival" in 2008. It is also known as "McLeod Ganj International Film Festival".

"This film festival is independent of any restrictions and has no affiliation to any government or organisation. The festival is aimed at sharing beautiful stories, concerns, interests and creativity. The festival particularly promotes independent filmmakers," Lobsang said in a statement.
 

He added that25 films have been selected from over more than 100 entries from around the world.

"I am thankful to all those who believe in us and submit their films in our festival. Because of limited time, we had to disappoint many by being unable to accept their excellent films they would have made it into the festival had we had more time."

There will be four feature films, two documentaries, and the rest are in short film categories.

The films to be screened at the festival are "Aval Pinne Ayaalum", "The Compasses", "Consolation", "Dasha the Fool", "The End of Wind" and "Gull".
