Free yarn distributed to 22,49,249 weavers in Assam

The Assam Government has distributed free yarn to 22,49,249 weavers at an expenditure of Rs 15,903 lakh under the Mukhyomantrir Asom Bikash Yojna scheme implemented by the state handloom and textiles department during the last nine years.

During the last six years, 4,656 weavers were distributed handlooms free of cost by incurring an expenditure of Rs 1,412.85 lakh, an official release said here today.

Under the Integrated Handloom Development scheme, 17,200 weavers have been provided training and financial assistance.

For the economic development of the weavers, Rs 477.07 lakh have been incurred under housing scheme and 6,814 weavers have been provided homes, the release said.
 

During the last three years, 11,30,448 weavers have been covered under the health insurance facility, it added.
