Dutt Mehta died at his residence here today after protracted illness at the age of 96.

Mehta, who was imprisoned during the country's freedom struggle, was cremated with full state honours in the evening.

He breathed his last at his residence in Balchandpara area, family members said.

National Commission for Women Chairperson Mamta Sharma visited Mehta's residence and consoled the bereaved family.
