Freedom fighter Ragho Shankar Gade passes away

Veteran freedom fighter Ragho Shankar Gade, associated with Bhai Kotwal, who had organized youths to fight the British rule, died in Badlapur here, family sources said today.

He was 113.

Gade breathed his last on Thursday night and was cremated near the Martyrs memorial built just in front of his house in Boisavre village.

He was a member of the 'Azad Hind Dasta' an organisation formed by Kotwal, who was the Vice Chairman of the Matheran Burough Council, and active in the movement against Britishers.

The Azad Hind Dasta was very active in the regions of Ambernath, Badlapur, Wangni, Nearl and Matheran.
 

Gade was presented with a 'Tamprapat' by late Indira Gandhi when she was the Prime Minister for his contribution towards the freedom movement.

A condolence meeting has been organised on June 28 in Badlapur, according to senior BJP activist and former President of the Badlapur Municipal Council Ram Patkar.

Gade is survived by four children and grand children.
