Railways carried 180.63 million tonnes (MT) of freight during April-May 2014, registering an increase of 5.12 per cent over the goods traffic during the corresponding period last year.
It had ferried 171.84 MT of freight during the same period last year.
The national transporter carried 91.83 MT of freight in May this year, an increase of 3.67 MT over the traffic of 88.16 MT carried during the same period last year.
It was an increase of 4.16 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.
