A man was shot while out for an evening run in a town southwest of Paris, receiving bullet wounds to the leg and back, a police source has said.

The 32-year-old was jogging in the town of Fontenay-aux-Roses on Wednesday night when he was struck by automatic gunfire in an attack which police said had not been linked to a shooting yesterday morning in nearby Montrouge which left a policewoman dead.

The jogger was in hospital but his life was not in danger, the source said. Police were still searching for the attacker.

France is reeling from the attack on Wednesday at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that saw gunmen mow down 12 people, including journalists and two policemen.

A massive manhunt for the perpetrators is under way, with elite anti-terror police targeting an area north of the French capital.
