The frequency band 470-698 MHz has not been identified for International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT) services in India as per the outcome of World Radio communication Conference 2015.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that his ministry had conveyed its concurrence to a proposal from Communications and IT ministry, to which Prasar Bharati had also agreed, for identification of frequency band 470-698 MHZ for IMT.

This, he said, was "subject to the condition that while identifying the said frequency band for IMT in addition to the existing broadcasting band, the present and future requirements of Doordarshan and terrestrial broadcasting will be given due priority."

The Communications and IT ministry then sent a proposal for identification of 470-698 MHZ for IMT services for India to the World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held at Geneva during November, the minister said.

"Ministry of Communications and IT has informed that as per the outcome of the WRC-15, this frequency band has not been identified for IMT services in India," Rathore said in his written reply.
