Amid tight security, a fresh batch of 4000 pilgrims today left for the cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

"A fresh batch of 4000 pilgrims in over 90 vehicles left the Jammu base camp towards Kashmir this evening to perform the pilgrimage for the holy cave shrine," Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Simrandeep Singh said.

The Amarnath Yatra, which remained suspended for two days following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, resumed yesterday.

Following the unrest in Kashmir, several pilgrims had cancelled their travel plans and returned to their native places while some preferred to visit other holy shrines in Jammu region.

"While over 200 people cancelled their plans to go ahead with the yatra on the first day of the turmoil in the valley, many people went to other shrines like Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori," the DC said.
