A fresh clash broke out today at the Himachal Pradesh University between members of the SFI and ABVP, leaving two activists of the leftist body injured, even as police arrested 22 students in connection with the violence.

Police have registered a case and arrested 22 persons, 17 of them ABVP workers, in connection with the violent clash near the varsity's main gate, SP Shimla D W Negi said.

He said medical examination of the injured students had been conducted and cautioned both ABVP and SFI leaders against vitiating the atmosphere in the campus.

Both student bodies have accused each other of inciting violence and indulging in wanton attacks and have criticised police for not taking action against the culprits.

Violent clashes earlier occurred in the University on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, casting a shadow on the inspection by a NAAC team which continued for the third day today.
