"Fresh Off The Boat" author Eddie Huang is set to direct and pen coming-of-age story "Boogie".
According to Variety, the project set at Focus Features will be based in contemporary New York City.
The story will revolve around a Chinese-American basketball talent who struggles to balance the expectations of his immigrant family and his dreams of playing for the NBA.
Huang, whose parents are Taiwanese immigrants, said, "'Boogie' is the reflection of my ancestor's spirit and values as I've always felt them navigating me through this American life."
Debutant Taylor Takahashi will play the title role. Pamelyn Chee and Jorge Lendeborg Jr are also a part of the cast.
Josh Bratman of Immersive Pictures, Josh McLaughlin of Wink Productions and Michael Tadross are attached as producers.
Huang's autobiographical "Fresh off the Boat: A Memoir" is adapted into the hit ABC TV series of the same name. Its sixth season starts airing on September 27.
