Fresh snowfall in Himachal

The high altitude areas in tribal belt of Lahaul and Spiti, Pangi, Bharmaur and Kinnaur and mountain passes experienced 20 to 30 cm of fresh snowfall while upper areas of Manali had mild a snowfall.

The mid and lower hills had light rains with Seobagh recording 12 mm rains followed by Bhuntar 8 mm, Bajaura 7 mm, Manali 5, Chamba and Saloni 4 mm each.

Day temperatures rose marginally in lower areas and Una in Shivalik foothills was hottest in the region with maximum temperature at 23.4 deg C while Sundernagar recorded a high of 22.1 deg C, followed by Solan 20.6 deg C, Nahan 19.7 deg C, Bhunter 19.3 deg C, Dharamshala 17.2 deg C, Shimla 15.1 deg C and Kalpa 11.5 deg C.

 

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti was coldest with minimum temperature at minus 8.0 deg C while Kalpa recorded a low of minus 1.4 deg C, followed by Manali and Mandi 2.0 deg C, Palampur 3.0 deg C, Solan 4.5 deg C, Shimla 4.8 deg C, Nahan 6.5 deg C and Una and Dharamsala 8.4 deg C and 8.8 deg C respectively.

The local MeT office has predicted more rain and snow in the region from January 15 onwards with a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) as an upper air system effecting the western Himalayan region.
