Fresh stone-pelting in troubled Harsul area of Nashik district

Fresh incidents of stone-pelting were reported today at Thanapada area of tribal-dominated Harsul town in the district, in which two houses belonging to families of a community were damaged, in the wake of a group clash that occurred here on Tuesday.

The clash had occurred on July 14 in the town after the body of a tribal youth was found in a farm-well belonging to another community.

Today morning police said the situation was under control. But, the calm proved to be fragile with fresh instances of stone-pelting occurring later in the day, police said.

According to district superintendent of police (rural) Sanjay Mohite, 32 persons, including some collegians, had been arrested till last night. No fresh arrests were made today.
 

Number of policemen injured in various stone-pelting incidents in the last two days has reached 35. The officer in charge of Harsul police station too was among the injured.

Special Inspector General of police J J Singh and DSP Mohite are camping at Thanapada.

Last evening Maharashtra water resources minister Girish Mahajan, who is also the guardian minister of Nashik district, had visited the town and appealed for calm.
