Fresh water to be released in Holy Bein river

Holy Bein (rivulet) Technical committee Coordinator Jaspal Singh, who is Secretary Expenditure and Planning, today directed the Chief Engineer Power Corporation to release 200 cusecs of water from Mukerian Hydel Channel from Tarkiana barrage near Dasuya in Hoshiarpur.

A deputation of Guru Nanak Sacred Bein Restoration committee led by its President Iqbal Singh today met Coordinator Jaspal Singh to demand the release of 200 cusecs of fresh water to make a perenial flow in the Bein river.

The deputation apprised the Coordinator of deteriorating condition of bein due to stoppage of fresh flow, Singh said.

The members of the deputation also apprised him that government funds of several crores spent on the Bein project would go waste in case water is not released in it and it would perish the fish and other marines.
 

Singh apprised the members of Bein Restoration Committee that government had released Rs 3 crore under the Bein project to the gram panchayats for the construction of ponds in the villages in order to stop the flow of sullage water falling in the bein and government had released Rs 6 crore under the Bein project so far.

He said he would visit 160 km long Bein river soon to review the progress of the ongoing projects.

Bein Restoration Committee President Iqbal Singh demanded the stoppage of sullage water of towns and villages polluting the bein be stopped in view of the historic and religious importance of Bein river which is attached to the early life of Sikh Guru Guru Nanak Dev.
