FRI to set up centre in Punjab

A centre of the Forest Research Institute will be developed on seven acres of land at Ladowala in Punjab's Ludhiana district at an estimated cost of Rs 21 crore.

A decision to this effect was taken by Director of FRI, Dehradun, P P Bhojvaid after a meeting with senior institute officials and Punjab's Chief Conservator of Forest H S Gujral, FRI sources said here today.

During his visit to Dehradun last year, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had expressed a keen desire to have an institute on the pattern of FRI, Dehradun in his state, offered all help for implementation of the project.
 

To be modelled on FRI, Dehradun, the proposed centre at Ladowala will be spread over an area of one lakh suqare ft, they said, adding it would take two years to construct the building.
