Parents, relatives and friends of Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella are elated after the news of his elevation as Microsoft's CEO broke here, today evening, even as neighbours gathered at Nadella's posh Banjara Hills residence here to congratulate his parents.

However, despite repeated requests from the media, Satya's father B N Yugandhar, who is a 1962 batch IAS officer who had served in the Planning Commission, refused to speak to reporters gathered outside his residence in good strength. Messages sent to his mobile phone requesting for his comments also went unheeded.

Born in 1969, Satya Nadella went to the Hyderabad Public School (HPS) at Begumpet here, after which he obtained a degree in electronics and communications from the Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka.

One of his classmates from HPS, Faiz Khan, who is also the Secretary of the HPS Society, said that a special assembly of HPS students would be convened tomorrow to share the joy.

"The school administration will meet soon to mark Nadella's elevation to the top post at Microsoft. We would also call him to the school to share his views at an appropriate time," Khan told PTI.

Another HPS classmate M Chandrasekhar and a former CEO of an infotech company in the city, said that he and his friends felt very proud of Satya Nadella.

"This is a great moment. We all cherish and hope that Microsoft would scale greater heights under his leadership," he said.

B V R Mohan Reddy, who is Chairman and Managing Director of Infotech Enterprises said, "We are very delighted that somebody who is an Indian has become CEO of the largest software company in the world. It proves the point that people with merit and put in hard work are successful. We wish him all success".
