Introducing for the first time in Bengali the Bollywood tradition of using theme-based jewellery in contemporary works, blockbuster 'Ichhe'-maker Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay makes his characters don the 'Ramdhanu' costumes, reflecting the seven colors of life.
Shiboprosad, whose 'Alik Sukh' had been screened in the Cannes film mart, said "It has been a long drawn tradition of Bollywood and ostensibly in Hollywood to use jewellery which are integral to the theme of the movie."
"You think about 'Black', a film which explores Rani Mukherjee's dark world, where the minimalist costumes were in sync with the mood. You think about 'Veer Zara' where the colors of accessories matched the bright agrarian fields of Punjab, in Hollywood you think about 'Sex in the City' and 'Lord of the Rings' where knick-knacks gelled with the look and feel of the frames," Shiboprosad told PTI.

The 90s mainstream heroine Rachana Banerjee, having shifted genre from formula-based films to more realistic types, said, "We have seen how jewellery played an important role in the parents' psyche on the D day as they believed wearing heavy ornaments will cast an impression on the interview board."
Rachana, who portrays a grooming school teacher in the film, rued, "Now the concept is changing and I can attempt something new which was not possible in those days. There was neither much scope to do films with unconvenctional subjects and go beyond the set formula as the audience was not ready."
"We have designed a whole range of 'Ramdhanu' ornaments for the film based on the inputs from our art direction units merging the seven colors. This is a first ever concept in Tolly, apart from period films," Rupak Saha, on behalf of designers, said about 'Ramdhanu Collections.
