Andhra Pradesh government today said Japanese company Fuji Electric is mulling setting up a smart grid for electricity supply in the state on pilot basis.
According to a statement issued by state government, Fuji Electric officials today met the Chief Minister regarding setting up Smart Grid.
"The company officials informed the Chief Minister that the smart grid will be set up in Vijayawada on pilot basis. As part of the cooperation between Japan and government of Andhra Pradesh, Fuji Electric has conducted a feasibility study for a smart grid project and will submit the report soon," it said.
Stating that their smart grid technology can support the new capital (around Vijayawada), Fuji Electric officials informed the chief minister that the smart grid, monitors consumption of energy and forecasts the demand for the next 24 hours to make energy management efficient, it said.
In gated communities, sensors can be installed on buildings which will forecast energy requirement and give insights into energy consumption patterns.
The smart grid allows one to share energy with other grids if the demand is less from one grid and more from the others.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also asked the delegates to install smart meters and suggest technologies which can bring down the transmission and commercial losses from the current 12.9 per cent to 6 per cent, it added.
Explaining that energy efficiency and energy saving is one of government's focus areas, Naidu also asked the company official to identify the possibilities of collaboration in energy-related technology areas such as renewable energy (like wind, solar, biomass, etc).
The chief minister also asked them to explore the possibility of introducing dynamic and cost-effective pricing system for power. He also asked them to study the feasibility of introducing remote-controlled power stations.
Fuji Electric officials told Naidu that they would visit Andhra Pradesh again with officials of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation next month, it added.
