Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers would receive full compensation for damage to crops caused by waterlogging, Haryana minister O P Dhankar said today.

The state government would provide compensation of Rs 12,000 per acre to the uninsured farmers for damage to crops under the earlier compensation policy, he said.

However, the farmers who have opted for the 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana' would get more compensation, the state Agriculture Minister said.

Orders have been issued to all the Deputy Commissioners to conduct mapping of areas prone to waterlogging. The report would be prepared by committee of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tehsildar and Deputy Directors of the Department, Dhankar said.

He asked the farmers to report crop damage due to waterlogging to the agriculture officer concerned and said it was the Farmers' Welfare Department's responsibility to guide the farmers so that they can get appropriate compensation.

The minister also said 30 per cent farmers in the state had got their crops insured under the insurance scheme.

Informing that over 4.90 lakh hectares in the state is under horticulture, Dhankar said the state government is taking all steps to increase the area under horticulture to nine lakh hectares so as to fully exploit the market in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR).

Besides, farmers are being encouraged to learn post-harvest processing and marketing techniques so that they can get better price for their produce, he added.
