A full dress rehearsal of the Independence Day celebrations was held at Red Fort here today.
Personnel from the armed forces and schoolchildren participated in the event.
Kids in coloured clothes, who formed national flag, along with the Indian Air Force (IAF) band caught everybody's attention at the function.
During the rehearsals, major roads around Red Fort area remained closed for general traffic from 5 AM to 9 AM causing traffic snarls at various places in the city.
Traffic remained restricted at Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail, S P Mukherjee Marg from H C Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk from Fountain to Red Fort Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhas Marg and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhas Marg.
Many office goers where caught off guard due to the traffic restrictions as major roads like Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg and Ring Road between Nizammuddin Bridge and ISBT bridge remained closed.
Traffic jams were reported on roads which remained open for public as the entire traffic was diverted on these routes.
