The mortal remains of Army paratrooper Mukut Bihari Meena were today consigned to flames with full military honour in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, officials said.

Meena, a three para regiment jawan who used to work with Sector 8 Rashtriya Rifles, was killed on July 11 during a gunfight with a militant group in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

The funeral was held at his village in Khanpur area with full military honours, defence spokesperson Sombit Ghosh said.

One of his relatives told reporters that Meena had called up his brother saying that he would be coming home for Rakshabandhan in August, but instead he came home wrapped in the tricolour.

Public representatives, officials from the Army, the district administration, the police and a large number of local people were present to pay homage to him.
