Union Minister for Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has promised cement roads, sanitation facilities, clean water and a garbage treatment plant which would produce biogas at Pachgaon village near here, which he has adopted.

The village, 15 km from here, is in Umrer tehsil and has a population of 4,923. Of the 761 houses in the village, only 454 have toilets.

The local farmers mainly cultivate cotton and cauliflower. A cold storage for the cauliflower crop would be built in due course, Gadkari's Public Relations Officer Sudhir Deolgaonkar said.

Also, Rs 25 lakh would be spent for construction of a community hall, and Rs 10 lakh for a gymnasium.

Gadkari was welcomed by Sarpanch Punyasheela Meshram and a large crowd of villagers during his visit. MP Kripal Tumane and local MLA Sudhir Parve were also present.
