Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today announced that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had granted permission to build 100 bridge-cum-dams in Maharashtra.
These bridge-cum-dam structures not only helped in irrgation but also helped vehicular transport, said officials.
Gadkari, while addressing the 3rd edition of the "Bhujal Manthan", a national dialogue on clean and sustainable groundwater, here, said that 35 of these structures would be in Vidarbha, 55 in Marathwada and the rest in others parts of the state.
Gadkari told the gathering that the initiative would bring an area between 40 to 50 thousand hectares under irrigation and would provide clean drinking water to villages.
