GMR group will help Oman Airport authorities in the smooth take over of the new terminal at the Salalah International Airport, ahead of its official launch in November this year.

GMR Airport Developer Limited (GADL), a subsidiary of the Bengaluru-based infrastructural company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) in this regard, under which it would provide services ranging from programme management, testing and commissioning of airport systems to development of aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenue streams, a company release said.

"We are honoured that Oman Airport Management Company has signed a comprehensive MoU with GADL, aimed at knowledge sharing and skills development for the OAMC staff," GMR group Business Chairman (Airports) Srinivas Bommidala said.

In line with the company's stated "asset light asset right" strategy, GMR has been engaging with and offering consultancy services to airport companies in the Middle East and South East Asia, he said.

As per the MoU, the GMR subsidiary would also provide on-site support for six months at Salalah Airport, which will help OAMC team to learn and adapt some of the best practices of Delhi and Hyderabad airports, the company said.

OAMC team may also undergo trainings at the Regional Centre for Training Excellence (RCTE)-certified GMR Aviation Academy, it added.

Spread over 65,000 square metres, the new state-of-the-art passenger terminal has been designed to cater to over two million travellers per year in the first phase.
