GAIL, Century LED commit to protect environment

GAIL (India) Limited today pledged its commitment in protecting the environment and refrain from practices having an adverse impact on ecology.

"World Environment Day is celebrated globally in order to raise awareness about depletion of green cover, its implications and measures to correct the same. This agenda is in sync with GAIL's commitment towards taking positive action in this regard," the GAIL said in a press release.

In line with efforts to conserve energy, GAIL has adopted Green Building concept in all new building projects and most programmes begin with planting saplings and have campaigns like 'Each one Plant One'.
 

The green belt area of total land holdings of GAIL is 41 per cent, which is about 17.2 million sq m, the release said.

To mark 'Environment Week', lighting solutions major Century LED has initiated a waste management policy at its manufacturing unit in Howrah, a company press release said.

The company has segregated all its wastes into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste materials and further segregated the raw materials into metal, plastic and non-plastic sub-categories, the release added.
